Lori Mathews' Team in Training PledgePage
I'm at it again! on June 01, 2003 I will be participating with Team in Training in the San Diego Rock n Roll Marathon in beautiful San Diego. My goal is to raise $4,000. The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's mission is to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and to improve the quality of life of patients and their families. Team in Training is the world's largest endurance sports training program. In exchange for training and support, I will be raising funds that go towards research, advocacy, patient services and awareness. Over 75% of every dollar goes towards the cause - more than any other not-for-profit organization. Why do I do this? Did you know ... An estimated 1000,000 people in the United States will be diagnosed with leukemia, lymphoma or myeloma in 2003? Approximately 160 people die daily from these cancers. That adds up to one person every nine minutes. Leukemia and lymphoma are the leading fatal cancers in young men under age 39. Although I feel so blessed that no one in my family has been affected by these cancers, I have met too many families who have had to say good-bye to parents, children, and loved ones. Two out of ten cancer patients do not recover, and that is WAY too many. Thank you to my friends and family for their continued support and encouragement, you don't know how much that means to me, or how much that gets me through the difficult times (i.e. miles 21-26). Thank you from the bottom of my heart. This girl walking/running with her brown hair in a pony tail is me! Wish I could keep going like she does! God Bless! |
